ABOUT US

Making handcrafted unique wooden figures

Having purchased many wooden small world play figures for my child I started making figures to teach them about Scottish wildlife, the landscape and its many stories as I wasn't able to find these elsewhere.

I decided to start Storm Kelpie in order to bring these wooden toys to other children and households play too.

Scotland has a rich history, important wildlife that needs more awareness and plenty of interesting myths to bring to life for children to learn about through play.

A Storm Kelpie is another name for the Blue Men of the Minch, a type of Merfolk who live in the sea off the West coast of Scotland between the mainland and outer Hebrides.  I have a love of the sea in this area having been brought up sailing the waters on the west coast of Scotland and the brand needed to reflect this.

Each wooden toy figure is cut out individually then shaped and sanded by hand.  The figures are then stained, painted and sealed using EN71-3 certified child safe products that are as natural based as possible to meet our needs.  This makes the creation of our figures a time consuming and very hand crafted process and we hope the recipients of our wooden toy figures will appreciate this uniqueness and find them as something to cherish.

I really love sharing these creations with you.
