The Bean Nighe, Washer Woman at the ford is a mythical creature that haunts remote streams, lochs or rivers and can be seen washing the clothes of someone about to die. They are said to be a type of Banshee fairy and the stories vary in how grotesque this creature is. Our washer woman wooden toy figure is a lot less threatening than the myth and we don’t think scary in any way. The wooden toy can also be played with as any type of figure for cleaning floors or doing laundry not just as in the story that inspired this character dictates.
Our figure is made of Lime wood and measures approximately 11.5cm long by 12cm high and 2.8cm thick. Like the rest of our wooden toy range it is cut out and then shaped further by hand carving before hand sanding, painting and sealing therefore each will be a little unique in character and differ slightly from the images shown. Please bear this in mind that you are purchasing a handcrafted item and that minor manufacturing marks, small paint errors and carving misshaps are not seen as flaws but as enhancing each items individual character.
Like all our wooden toys it can be gently wiped clean using a slightly damp lint free cloth. We recommend refinishing the figure in the future using a suitable EN71-3 certified child safe natural clear wax or other suitable finish to further extend its protection for further longevity. We make and test our wooden figures to be UKCA conformant for those aged 3 and over who no longer mouth their toys, this is due to our base wood not being chemically tested and the small size of some of our figures and the risk of small parts forming if broken. All stains, paints and sealers used are EN71-3 certified as child safe.
The Price is for one individual figure as described.
Warning: Small Parts Choking Hazard not suitable for those under 36months old!
