Selkies are Scottish mythical shapeshifting Seal folk that can remove their skins in order to be human on land. They have to hide their skin well as if lost they cannot return to their home in the sea. People that fall in love with a Selkie either find and hide the skin themselves to keep the Selkie trapped on land or are heartbroken when the Selkie returns to being a seal. Our wooden toy figure for small world play shows a human with black coloured hair as it starts to emerge out of its Grey coloured seal form.
The Selkie Toy figure is made of Lime wood and measures approximately 14.8 long by 6.2cm high and 2.8cm wide. It has been cut out and then further shaped by handcarving before hand sanding, staining, painting and sealing making each piece we make slightly unique and so the item you receive will differ slightly from the images shown. Please bear in mind you are purchasing a hand crafted item and that minor manufacturing marks, carving misshaps and paint errors are not seen a flaws but as enhancing each figures individual character.
All our wooden toy pieces can be gently wiped clean using a slightly damp lint free cloth and we would recommend in the future refinishing the items using a suitable clear child safe EN71-3 certified natural wax or sealant to further extend its protection for longevity. All our figures are made and tested to be UKCA conformant for ages 3 and over who no longer mouth their toys due to our base wood not being tested, the small size of some of our pieces and the risk of small parts forming if broken.
Price is per individual figure as described.
